Arousiak, the grandmother of the author, wishes for an education, but she marries instead, at the age of twelve. Arousiak is happy as a new bride, living in luxury, with a devoted husband. But soon her life shatters, as Turkish Ottoman soldiers occupy the City of Khoy, and massacre almost the entire Armenian population of the city.
